Magnitude 7.4 Quake hits Taiwan At least 9 reported Dead and Hundreds of Missing

  

Tainan, Taiwan – Taiwan hits a 7.4 magnitude quake yesterday April 3, 2024 at 7:58 in the morning the strongest quake recorded in the last 25 years.

As an OFW worker here in Taiwan, at 3:30am in the morning the quake initially felt in our dormitory at Annan, Tainan, Taiwan as our mobile phone received Earthquake alert.

Going our respective work at around 7:50-8:00 in the morning, a major aftershock hit our company building in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The epicenter of the quake is in Hualien County with an estimated population of 300,000 30% of that is mainly living in the City.

As stated in Yahoo article, 9 people are dead and hundreds are injured or missing. According to Taiwan’s National Fire Agency (NFA), others remain trapped, 71 miners reportedly trapped in 2 mines in Hualien after a powerful quake struck the island.

Last time Taiwan hit by a strong quake when the East Asian country hit by a 7.7 magnitude in 1999 that lost 2,264 people.
