Philippines survived the late run by the Iranians in the final period with 84-83 final score to move into the semi-final round against the host China who also defeated South Korea.
Philippines who almost lead in the entire second half and lead as much as 62-41 late in the third quarter. But Iran pushed a massive run in the final period and went 22-7 run under 3:26 mark to cut the deficit to 78-76 and reclaim the lead 81-80 in favor of the Iranian under 2 minutes of play.
But Justin Brownlee and Junemar Fajardo made the 2 huge baskets to clinch semis in Asian Games 2023. Brownlee led Gilas with 36 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists, Fajardo also added 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Mohammadsina Vahedi led the Iranians with 24 points.
This will be the 2nd semi-final appearance of Philippines since losing against South Korea in 2002 Busan Games.
