Cebu, Philippines – African Swine Fever “ASF” is first detected in the Famous lechon in Carcar City on last March 1, 2023.
After the detection Governor Gwendolyn Garcia ordered a tight border controls for bringing, pork meat, live hogs also the famous lechon carcar and chicharon which has come from pigs are prohibited.
As of today March 20, 2023 ASF is now detected in the following towns of Cebu:
- Cebu City
- Bogo City
- Liloan
- Sibonga
- Tuburan
What is African Swine Fever
African swine fever (ASF) is a viral disease of pigs that is caused by a virus of the Asfarviridae family. ASF can spread quickly through contact with infected animals, contaminated feed, and by people moving pigs and pig products between farms.
What are the Symptoms of African Swine Fever

- vomiting
- loss of appetite
- diarrhea
- death
As of now there is no cure of the ASF and the advice is to eliminate or kill infected pigs. Vaccines are available in some countries, but they are not widely used or available.
