Gilas Pilipinas open their Fiba World Cup 2023 campaign with a tough loss against the Dominican Republic. Gilas Pilipinas play with a heart as they called “puso” with a thousand fans heading to the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.

Despite the loss “87-81” Gilas set a new record gate attendance in Fiba World Cup. Karl Anthony Towns led the Domican Republic with 26 points and 10 rebounds along with his 15 of 16 free throws.

Gilas also led by the former 6th man of the year Jordan Clarkson with 28 points and 7 rebounds but fouled out with 3:32 minutes remaining in the final period. June Mar Fajardo delivered 16 points and 7 rebounds in 100% field goal.

Gilas once had a 4 point lead “59-55” but did not capitalize as the visiting team rallied 11-4 run to end the 3rd quarter.

Gilas still had the shot with 4:27 remaining in the game “77-76”, but the momentum now favored to visiting team as Clarkson got fouled out in the next position.
