Zero Remittance Week: OFW’s Plan Protest Against Duterte’s ICC Arrest

  

Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) are planning “Zero Remittance Week” an economic protest that can affect country, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in which OFW’s contribute around 8.3%. This protest is a response to the arrest of Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Zero Remittance Week: From March 28 – April 4, 2025

Zero Remittance Week will start on March 28, 2025 the Birthday of Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and will end on April 4, 2025. The campaign aims to pressure the Philippine government by halting remittance inflows, which are vital to the nation’s economy.

Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro has appealed for calm and reconsideration to all OFW’s to join the movement, their families will go hungry she added.

According to World Bank OFW’S remittance in 2024 reach $40 billion and rank 4th behind China and Mexico with $48 billion and $68 billion respectively, India top of the list with $129 billion.
