Microsoft is shutting down Skype, the video-calling service they bought for $8.5 billion in 2011, instead Microsoft will focus its “Microsoft Teams” a video conferencing and team applications service, existing Skype users will still able to login into “Teams”.

Skype was founded in 2003 by a group of Engineers in Tallinn, Estonia, Skype is a pioneer in making telephone calls using the internet using “VOIP” voice internet protocol a technology that converts audio into a digital signal transmitted online, they added video calls in 2005 after eBay bought the service.
With the growth of newer technology like Slack, Teams and the emerging of Zoom during the COVID-19 pandemic, In March 2020 Skype had 40 million daily active users and slowly decreasing, a contrast to Microsoft Teams rising from nearly 250 million active users in July 2021.
