Manila, Philippines – Lithuania handed team USA their first loss of the tournament with “110-104” at the Mall of Asia Arena with a crowd of 11,349 fans.
Vaidas Kariniauskas led the Lithuania with 15 points and 5 rebounds, Jonas Valanciunas finished with 12 points in the victory despite foul trouble, balanced scoring of Lithuania made a huge upset of the Americans.
As the second round continues, the Lithuanians poured early in the opening period outmatching the American to end the first period “12-31” and continue their led as they ahead of 17 points at the half “37-54”.
Americans find a rhythm in the third quarter and ignited with a 15- 2 run to cut the deficit to “56-52”, but the Lithuanians squad had and answer.
Anthony Edwards led USA with 35 points and five 3-pointers, Unfortunately only Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges and Brandon Ingram finished with double-figures.
Despite the loss Team USA will have the chance to adjust and face Italy in the quarter finals while, Lithuania will also face against the Serbian Team.
All remaining games will be held in Manila as quarter finals already set as Germany will face Latvia, Canada will also play Slovenia.
