Manila, Philippines – Germany upset the loaded USA team in their semi-final match on Friday September 8, 2023 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Germany eliminated the USA 113-111 and will play against Serbia on Sunday. No USA again for two consecutive Fiba World Cup Finals after the tough loss. This will be the first-ever World Cup Final by Germany.
Andreas Obst led the German with 24 points, Franz Wagner added 22 points. Dennis Schröder the playmaker of German team finished with 17points and 9 assists.
Germany control the game and led as much as 12 points “106-94” early in the final period. But the American managed to cut the deficit after the 2 free throws made by Austin Reaves 107-108 with 1:17 remaining but Germany managed to escape after the heroic corner three of Andi Obst then followed by Dennis Schröder step back jumper to seal the victory 111-113.
Anthony Edwards led USA with 23 points, 8 rebounds. Austin Reaves also added 21 points but not enough to pull up a win.
Germany still undefeated going to the Gold Medal match against the Serbia in Fiba World Cup 2023.
